AIM, Inc., the global trade association recognized as the worldwide authority on automatic identification and data collection (AIDC) and networking in a mobile environment, today announced the availability of the Public Review copy of the draft International Symbology Specification for Posicode. PosiCode is a "position" based linear symbology, and very different from most single width symbologies that are presence/absence symbologies. A position-based symbology, decouples the widths of the bars from their positions. The centers of the bars are laid out on a grid of equally spaced parallel lines. Upon “reading” the code the data is decoded based on the position of the bars rather than their widths. AIM Inc. developed the technical specifications over the past 2 years during which the documents underwent a rigorous review process. One of the final stages in this review process is the Public Review. This 90 day period allows companies not involved in the specification process the opportunity to review the document before final publication and submit comments based on the practicality and usability of the specification. Following the Public Review, the document will be amended as necessary and sent for final approval by the AIM Specification Council and the AIM Board of Directors prior to publication. The Posicode specification has a general overview of the symbology, detailed description of symbol structure, a reference decode algorithm, and addresses symbol quality. A detailed summary of the symbology can be seen online. AIM Inc. member companies have volunteered their time and expertise to develop, review, and adopt these important specifications. Likewise, the association has invested significant resources to service the Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) industry with timely and accurate specifications. Publication of these documents reaffirms that AIM Inc., as the trade association for AIDC technology, is committed to developing programs and resources that will foster the worldwide understanding of the benefits of AIDC Technologies.
