Geest select Intellident for Marks & Spencer’s RFID Application The Geest Group of companies have selected Intellident to supply all their fresh food production sites with RFID track & trace solutions. As part of the world’s largest supply chain RFID rollout, the seven locations, from Edinburgh to Sussex, will be equipped with a range of RFID equipment that encodes data to an RFID tag permanently attached to the new Marks & Spencer’s metric tray. Bourne Stir Fry, Geest QV, Caledonian Produce, Tilmanstone Salads, Geest Prepared Foods, World Wide Fruit and English Village Salads will have the capability to track and trace live production and record every tray delivery leaving the Geest sites. Intellident are installing a range of RFID equipment from Portal MultiScanners to Production Line Writing equipment that encodes the tray tag with it’s contents and the display date ready for automated batch receipt at the six Marks & Spencer distribution centres. Intellident’s fully ruggedised MultiScanner Systems deliver unrivalled dynamic anti-collision tag reading. This means that multiple RFID tags can be read or written to simultaneously and instantaneously as they move through the MultiScanner portal, enabling much faster data capture and writing. Reading RFID tags through a MultiScanner as part of a receiving system also allows data to be captured and processed 83% faster than traditional bar-code scanning, making warehouses much more cost effective and efficient. Similarly, using an Intellident MultiScanner in a dispatch system allows many tags to be written simultaneously and with complete accuracy as they pass through the portal on their way into the supply chain. The Production LineWriter has been specifically developed for high volume producers, implementing best-of-breed RFID technology into demanding environments. The LineWriters are designed to be fully integrated into conveyors; rollerbeds, packing/filling lines and other pick & pack processes. Individual sites has each selected equipment that integrates seamlessly into their existing warehouse systems and processes to ensure that production is not affected during the writing process. Jackie Brown, Geest’s Project Manager commented; “The Geest Group chose Intellident because of their ability to deliver real-world solutions and not concepts.” Intellident are now working closely with Geest in implementing additional RFID solutions for dispatch verification via the Portal MultiScanners which will ensure complete load integrity and delivery visibility. Key benefits of the Intellident Solution include: * The opportunity for Geest to receive via the writing process, live production data as the tag is written. Cont…. * Better stock & equipment control. * Knowledge of the tray in the factory location, i.e. Picking or Dispatch. * Tighter controls of date life products, ensuring that all packed trays are despatched and out of tolerance trays are not. * The ability to deliver later and produce longer for the same fixed cost. * Greater control of despatched products, visibility of exactly what is being sent to the depot and when. * The ability to generate an instant despatch note, vehicle manifest or advanced order notice. No need to manually count/scan trays onto GIST lorries. * Removes margin for error during picking. * A much more robust method of holding data – no chance of data loss. * The Tray Tag is not susceptible to in-transit damage, weather etc., ensuring the data stays with the contents until the tag is overwritten. * Eventually Geest will no longer have to print and apply tray end labels, thus removing label costs, consumables, time and human error.
