RFID Experts Group to Address Education

Group to Develop List of Required Core Competencies for Professionals Involved at All Levels for the Full Spectrum of RFID Technologies and Applications

Warrendale, PA – May 6, 2005 – AIM Global, the trade association recognized as the worldwide authority on automatic identification and mobility, today announced that its RFID Experts Group (REG) has initiated a project to develop a comprehensive outline of the types of knowledge required by these individuals.

According to the project editor, Bert Moore, Director, IDAT Consulting & Education,
"RFID includes a wide range of frequencies, technologies and capabilities that have to be integrated into a system.  It is not a plug-and-play technology so there is no one-size-fits-all level of knowledge required for RFID professionals."  The knowledge set needed for a systems architect, for example, is different from the knowledge set needed by a technician installing the system.

The project will look at all the types of RFID, from low frequency to microwave, and include both active and passive transponders.

REG will identify the different professional categories to be included and develop a list of core competencies required for each job description.  The REG will then share this information with the AIM Global Education Committee for development of educational material.

Moore noted that AIM Global is also a cornerstone member of the CompTIA RFID+ Certification Program that is being developed.  He sees no conflict between the REG activity and the CompTIA program.  He indicated that several members of the REG will be put forward to CompTIA as candidate Subject Matter Experts to assist in developing the certification program.

"The REG will be looking at a wide range of areas of expertise," Moore explained, "whereas CompTIA will be developing a focused certification program.  The work the REG is currently undertaking may be useful in developing possible future certification programs."

Anyone interested in working on this project should contact the project editor, Bert Moore (bmoore@idat.com).
