AIM, Inc. reported today that a piece of legislation referenced as H.R. 3448 and short titled "NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS FOR BIOTERRORISM AND OTHER PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCIES" has moved through the U.S. House and Senate and could soon be signed into law. AIDC Vendors should be aware that there is language in this proposed legislation that says: "REGULATIONS CONCERNING RECORD-KEEPING.—The Secretary, in consultation and coordination, as appropriate, with other Federal departments and agencies with responsibilities for regulating food safety, may by regulation establish requirements regarding the maintenance of records by persons (excluding farms and restaurants) who manufacture, process, pack, transport, distribute, receive, hold, or import food, as may be necessary to trace the source and chain of distribution of food and its packaging in order to address credible threats of serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals. The Secretary shall take into account the size of a business in promulgating regulations under this section." For more information on this or to get a copy of the draft document visit a U.S. Government site such as: http://thomas.loc.gov/ (search for H.R. 3448) or www.theorator.com If there is interest in discussing this topic during a membership teleconference please contact dan@aimglobal.org.
