AIM Presents Ultracode for Public Review
Symbology Standards Document Available for Download & Comment

Cranberry Township, PA
– June 5, 2014 – AIM, the leading industry association and worldwide authority on barcode, RFID, RTLS and mobile computing, has announced that the Public Review Draft of the International Symbology Specification (ISS) – Ultracode, developed by AIM’s Technical Symbology Committee (TSC), is now available for a 30-day public review.

Ultracode symbology is a family of color multi-row, variable-length two-dimensional matrix symbols incorporating structural rules for symbol damage detection. It also uses Reed-Solomon Error Control for error detection and data correction. The Ultracode symbol is designed to be printed or displayed with any CMYK or RGB print or electronic display technology, and read with any standard sRGB-compliant scanner, color digital camera or mobile phone.

Additionally, it is designed to be an alternative to conventional black and white bar codes when any or all of the following conditions apply:

· Either the 7-bit ASCII or the ISO/IEC 8859 family of 8-bit character sets are used

· Highly efficient encoding of URLs is desired

· CMYK or RGB printing or direct marking techniques are used for symbol creation

· Electronic sRGB displays are used for carrying the symbol

· Aesthetic considerations apply, such as on consumer packaging

Interested reviewers can download the document at Ultracode Public Review, or by visiting the AIM Online Store, located on the Association’s website, for a nominal fee.

The Public Review process officially ends on July 7, 2014.
