AIM Presents Two Standards for Public Review
Immunity Test for Exposure to RFID Readers & Update to Ultracode Symbology

Cranberry Township, PA | November 10, 2015 – AIM, the leading industry association and worldwide authority on barcode, RFID, NFC, the Internet of Things (IoT), RTLS and mobile computing, has announced 30-day public review periods for both new and updated automatic identification and data capture standards.

The first review for Medical Electrical Equipment and System Electromagnetic Immunity Test for Exposure to Radio Frequency Identification Readers highlights a standard developed by AIM's  RFID Experts Group (REG) Healthcare Initiatives Work Group for consideration as an AIM Standard.  The purpose of this document is to provide a test methods and test levels for the elevation of the electromagnetic immunity of (non-implantable) medical electrical equipment and systems to electromagnetic emissions from radio-frequency-identification (RFID) readers.

A public review opportunity for an updated version of the International Symbology Specification (ISS) – Ultracode, developed by AIM’s Technical Symbology Committee (TSC), is also available.  Ultracode symbology is a family of color multi-row, variable-length two-dimensional matrix symbols incorporating structural rules for symbol damage detection. It also uses Reed-Solomon Error Control for error detection and data correction. The Ultracode symbol is designed to be printed or displayed with any CMYK or RGB print or electronic display technology, and read with any standard sRGB-compliant scanner, color digital camera or mobile phone.

Interested reviewers can download either document (without charge) at AIM Public Review, or by visiting the AIM Store, located in the AIM Marketplace.

The Public Review process for these documents officially ends December 9, 2015.
